One great man eulogizes another great man.
Actor and author Stephen Fry salutes Christopher Hitchens as an inspiring polemicist but also as an abiding fan of P. G. Wodehouse and a magnificent writer.

I just listened to a perfectly reasonable and well presented perspective on NPR. Unfortunately it was undermined due to the presenter’s unfortunate name: Dick Meister. I’m guessing that happens a lot.

Stop Censorship →
Congress is considering two well-intentioned but deeply flawed bills, the PROTECT-IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).
As written, they would betray more than a decade of US policy and advocacy of Internet freedom by establishing a censorship system using the same domain blacklisting technologies pioneered by China and Iran.

SFO-dor
As I sit here, waiting on the tarmac for my flight to take off, I can smell nothing but the stench on the shoeless businessman’s feet that are stretched out merely inches from my Cathay coffin. Truly, hell is other people.

Stocks & Stones
Last night I decided to do a little gambling. For the first time I’m trying to play around with the stock market. It’s kinda fun actually. It’s just gambling really, but instead of betting on sports it’s gambling on something I know a little bit about. Having said that, at the end of my first day I’m down nearly 1%, and that’s not including the commission....

The Campaign for Real Monopoly →
Who knew?! I’m gonna try this, if I can just find someone who likes to play Monopoly. And who owns Monopoly.

I understand why many Americans don’t use the bus. I’m taking the 12 to the Flickr office and I’ve already heard about exotic tumors and witnessed an old homeless man hacking and coughing so badly that I thought his lung was gonna fly out and smack me in the face. Lovely.

Yesterday My Phone Rang
I couldn’t take the call. A few minutes later I was able to sneak a look at my phone to see who had called me, it was my dad’s girlfriend. I had to wait nearly an hour before I could get away from the meeting I was in to return her call. Standing in a hotel parking lot, blue sky and cold sun overhead, I waited for the call to connect. At that moment I knew what was about to happen. A...

Reality Check
So I was looking at Facebook earlier this evening and I noticed a status update from one of my friends. Well the author isn’t really a friend, and I probably should have included him in my latest Facebook cull, maybe next time? Anyway, his update was bemoaning the fact that he is at home alone on a Friday night.
Upon first reading it I thought “Well that’s not so bad,...

The Continuing Evil of People
So right now I’m on the company bus on my way to work. The bus is full, hence I have to sit next to someone. This someone seems totally incapable of keeping his arms or legs within his half of the row. Add to this that he smells, possibly doesn’t bathe and surely doesn’t launder his clothes regularly. For the entire journey he has watched anime on his MacBook Pro, and occasionally passed wind.

Rejectile Dysfunction
In 2009 I tried something new and slightly scary, dating. What follows will be neither revelatory or possibly even that interesting for you, but for me it’s an exercise in documenting something that has turned out to be both insignificant and yet transformational in a wholly unanticipated way. Be warned, should you embark upon reading this, get ready for an essay that became shockingly long....
